Overview
Jet2 is both an airline (Jet2.com) and a holiday company (Jet2holidays). Its apprenticeships are based in the north of England: in Leeds, Bradford, Cheadle and Manchester.
Aircraft engineering
This is Jet2’s main school leaver apprenticeship. Over four years at its maintenance hangar at Manchester Airport, you learn to look after the airline’s aircraft. You’ll do:
- classroom training, with exams
- hand skills, using tools
- practical experience, shadowing and then doing maintenance tasks on real aircraft
It’s a Level 3 Engineering Technician apprenticeship, made up of:
| Qualification | Level |
|---|---|
| Diploma in Aerospace and Aviation Engineering | 2 |
| Diploma in Aviation Maintenance | 3 |
| EASA Aircraft Maintenance Licence Category A, Part 66 modules | – |
At the end you take an assessment from the Royal Aeronautical Society. Pass, and you can apply to the Civil Aviation Authority for your Part 66 A licence. Jet2 then offers you an engineer job at a hangar or line station.
You need five GCSEs at grade C/5 or equivalent, including maths, English and science or a technical subject.
Flight simulator engineering
Pilots train in flight simulators, and someone has to keep them working. This apprenticeship is based at Jet2’s simulator centres in Bradford or Cheadle.
Other apprenticeships
Jet2 also takes on apprentices in IT, marketing, finance and procurement, HR, customer service, operations control and sustainability. Commercial roles are at the head office in Leeds city centre and operational roles are at Leeds Bradford Airport, with some in Manchester.
What they don’t tell you
Jet2 doesn’t publish apprentice pay, or the levels and entry requirements for its business apprenticeships. Check each advert and ask at interview.
What they do
Jet2 runs the airline Jet2.com and the tour operator Jet2holidays. Its head office is in Leeds, with engineering at a hangar at Manchester Airport and flight simulator centres in Bradford and Cheadle.
