Overview
KPMG UK offers apprenticeships across most of the business, from audit and tax to consulting and tech. It has offices in 19 locations, from Aberdeen to Southampton, and runs work experience for students in Year 13 or S5–S6 too.
Becoming a chartered accountant
The audit apprenticeship is one of the longest and most structured routes we’ve seen. Over five years, you do AAT Level 3 and 4 in the first two years, then the ACA professional qualification (or the CA in Scottish offices), which KPMG describes as a Level 7 qualification. KPMG says that by the end you’ll have the same qualifications as its graduate trainees, without a university degree. Audit apprentices earn £25,500 to £28,000 depending on programme and location, and should expect to travel to clients.
Technology degree apprenticeship
KPMG’s technology routes get you a BSc (Hons) in Digital and Technology Solutions, so they’re proper degree apprenticeships. The four-year Technology Apprenticeship is taught with BPP, through face-to-face sessions in Birmingham or Manchester, live online lessons and online resources. It pays £23,000 outside London and £25,000 in London.
What grades do you need?
Both the audit and technology programmes ask for five GCSEs including English and maths at grade 5, and 120 UCAS points from your top three grades. If you’re a few grades or points short, KPMG says you should still apply and explain your circumstances.
