Overview
Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team takes on apprentices every year. Its apprenticeships page describes Level 3 apprenticeships lasting up to 42 months and Level 4 IT apprenticeships lasting up to 19 months, all based at the team’s factory in Brackley.
What apprentices do
For National Apprenticeship Week 2023, the team introduced apprentices working in IT support, direct purchasing (ordering car parts from suppliers), the aero machine shop (programming computer-controlled machines), technology engineering and the aero model shop (making parts for wind tunnel testing). One machining apprentice described his programme as a four-year apprenticeship.
What you need
Mercedes is clear about this, which is helpful: at least five GCSEs at grade 5 or above, including maths, science and English. You also need the right to work in the UK for the whole apprenticeship (the team doesn’t sponsor visas), and to have lived in the UK for three years before starting (unless you qualify for an exemption). You’ll work on site at Brackley or at training providers in Milton Keynes or Coventry.
Pay and perks
The team says apprentices get 25 days’ holiday a year (a bit less in your first year, depending on your start date). It doesn’t publish pay. It says salary is discussed at interview, and help with moving may be considered depending on the role.

Our tips for Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team
- The application is a cover letter, a CV and a questionnaire all in one document, then online tests. Give yourself time to do each bit properly, because an empty questionnaire counts as an incomplete application.
- The team only allows AI as a tool, and not at all in the online tests. Write your answers in your own words.
- Work out how you'd get to Brackley and to the training providers in Milton Keynes or Coventry before you apply.
- You can apply for more than one role, so read them carefully and go for the ones that genuinely interest you.
