On-the-job training

What does On-the-job training mean?

Learning by doing your actual job, alongside experienced colleagues. It makes up most of an apprenticeship.

Apprentice
Someone doing an apprenticeship: an employee who is paid to work and train towards a recognised qualification at the same time.
Apprenticeship
A real, paid job where you also train towards a recognised qualification. In England at least 20% of your normal working hours are spent training, and you don't pay tuition fees.
Online assessment
Timed tests many employers use early in the application process, such as reasoning, numbers or how you like to work. Some are game-based.
Ordinary degree
A bachelor's degree without honours. In Scotland it's at SCQF Level 9, the starting level for Graduate Apprenticeships.
Panel interview
An interview with two or more interviewers at once. Look at whoever asked the question, but include everyone as you answer.
Participation age
The rule in England that you must stay in education or training until 18. Starting an apprenticeship counts.
