Overview

BT Group owns some of the UK’s best-known brands, including BT, EE, Plusnet and Openreach. Its apprenticeships are grouped into software engineering, engineering, data and AI, service, and transformation and delivery.

How big is it?

In January 2024 BT said its apprenticeships go from Level 2 (GCSE level) all the way to Level 7 (master’s level). For its September 2024 intake it announced 557 roles: 446 apprenticeships and 111 graduate jobs. In the five years before that, it had taken on more than 3,000 apprentices and graduates. BT said it came second in the UK’s Top 100 Apprenticeship Employers in 2023.

Where you’d work

Those roles were in 11 cities: Belfast, Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Darlington, Ipswich, Leeds, London, Manchester, Sheffield and Warrington, plus field-based roles in communities around the country. BT’s global research and development headquarters is Adastral Park in Suffolk, and some apprentices work in research there.

What you’d do

  • Jobs have been spread across 11 cities, from Belfast and Cardiff to Darlington and Ipswich, plus field-based roles, so check where each one's based.
  • BT Group's application has several stages (an online application, an online assessment and a final stage), so give yourself time.
