Overview
Lloyds Banking Group is behind some of the best-known names on the high street, including Lloyds Bank and Bank of Scotland, plus Scottish Widows. It’s been running apprenticeships for over a decade and has more than a thousand apprentices.
The apprenticeships
Lloyds offers apprenticeships from intermediate to degree level. Each one is built around a specific job, and they typically last from 12 months to five years. Every apprentice is a permanent employee from day one, and everyone finishes with a nationally recognised qualification.
Roles are in offices across the UK, including Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Halifax, Leeds, London and Manchester, with some hybrid working.
What you need
Every apprenticeship asks for at least:
| Where you studied | Minimum |
|---|---|
| England, Wales and Crown Dependencies | GCSE maths and English at grade 4–9 |
| Scotland | National 5 maths and English at A–C |
Some programmes ask for more. You can apply with predicted grades, but your offer only becomes unconditional once you have them. You also need the right to work in the UK for the whole programme, because Lloyds can’t sponsor visas for apprentices.
How you’re assessed
Assessment days can be online or in person. They might include a coaching conversation, a problem-solving exercise and a group activity with a presentation. Lloyds says you don’t need much work experience, but you do need to show the right attitude.
What they don’t tell you
Lloyds doesn’t publish apprentice pay. It says you’re paid in line with the role, so check each advert. You get at least 22 days’ holiday plus bank holidays.
What they do
Lloyds Banking Group is one of the UK's biggest financial services organisations, with over 28 million customers. Its brands include Lloyds Bank, Bank of Scotland and Scottish Widows.
