Overview

Arup is a global engineering and design consultancy that’s owned by its employees. It plans and designs the buildings, bridges, transport and energy projects that shape cities.

The apprenticeships

Arup recruits apprentices every year across 18 UK offices. Every apprenticeship is a full-time, permanent job, starting in September with a welcome event where you meet the rest of your intake.

You work on real projects alongside experts, and study for a qualification with a college, university or training provider, ending with an end-point assessment. You get a manager and a mentor, plus training through Arup’s Leadership Academy and Arup University.

What you need

  • at least five GCSEs at grade 4 (C) or above, including English and maths (predicted grades are fine)
  • full working rights, and to have lived in the UK for at least three years before you start, or otherwise meet funding rules
  • no more than 12 months of full-time experience in a similar role
  • any extra requirements in the advert

How to apply

  1. Fill in an online application with role-specific questions and your CV.
  2. Do three online assessments: behaviours, logical reasoning and critical thinking.
  3. Your CV and answers are reviewed by the recruiter and hiring manager.
  4. Have a 90-minute virtual interview with a case study and competency questions.

Arup asks you not to use AI writing tools when you apply.

What they don’t tell you

Arup’s main page doesn’t list levels, disciplines, pay or lengths. These are in each advert, so read them carefully. Arup doesn’t help with accommodation, so pick an office you can get to.

What they do
