Overview

Aldi has three ways in as an apprentice: in a store, in a warehouse or behind the wheel of a lorry. They’re practical, paid jobs from day one, and two of them don’t ask for any qualifications at all.

Store apprenticeships

There are two routes into stores:

Route What you get Length You need
Career Starter Level 2 Retailer, plus Level 2 Functional Skills 12–15 months No qualifications
Store Management Level 2 Retailer, then Level 3 Team Leader Up to 36 months GCSE maths and English at grade 4

You start by learning the Store Assistant role, then move on to stock, customer service and, on the management route, running a team. An assessor visits every month and you have reviews with your store and area managers every three months. If you do well on the management route, you could be asked to become a Deputy Store Manager.

Warehouse and driver apprenticeships

The Warehouse Operations Apprenticeship is a Level 2 Supply Chain Operative qualification, based at a distribution centre. You learn picking, packing, stock checks and how to use warehouse equipment safely.

The Driver Apprenticeship takes you from a car licence to a Category C licence, then Category C+E (which lets you pull a trailer). You get two mentors and an intensive driving course. You need to be 18 or over with a full, clean UK driving licence.

How much you’ll get paid

Every Aldi apprenticeship is based on 30 hours a week:

Programme Weekly pay
Store, year 1 £360 (£396 in London)
Store Management, year 2 £380 (£418 in London)
Store Management, year 3 £400 (£441 in London)
Warehouse Operations £343
Driver £415

You also get 28 days’ paid holiday including bank holidays, and Aldi says it pays for breaks. Our apprentice pay guide explains how this compares with the legal minimum.

How to apply

You fill in an online form, then have an interview or group assessment in a store or distribution centre with a manager. Aldi recruits for warehouse and driver apprenticeships all year round, with regular start dates.

What they do

Aldi runs supermarkets across the UK, supplied by its own regional distribution centres and lorry fleet. It says it employs more than 45,000 people in its UK business.
